Moss Wood Amy’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec 2024

G 95

One of the better Amy’s, this is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (72%), Merlot (11%), Petit Verdot (9%) and Malbec (8%). Maturation was for sixteen months in French oak barriques, but the use of any new oak was avoided. Purple magenta in colour, the nose exhibits notes of black cherries, smoked meats, graphite, plums, soy, cassis and blackberries. There is focus and great length here, with a line of juicy acidity and fine tannins on the finish. The wine maintains its intensity for the full journey. The deft oak handling has really allowed the fruit to shine. A wine which will easily provide pleasure for the next ten to fifteen years. Really impressive stuff. Drink now–2033 UMAMU Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 G 95 Another outstanding vintage that is triumphant in the glass. Lingonberries, apple skin, and a bushel of blackberries. Morello cherries, tantalising acidity, and a plume of dusty tannins. This is invigorating in its freshness and graceful nature. Dried bay leaf and sage with some pencil shaving on the finish. Another 10–12 years in your cellar to boot. For now, drink with a five-spice duck breast. Drink now–2037 Windance Estate Cabernet Merlot 2023 G 95 This wine really shows how good Cab Merlot can be. Blackberry compote, chocolate, violets, and lavender. Lush, bright and instantly likeable. It’s the kind of wine that crosses demographics without even trying. In classic Windance style, the fruit carries everything: pristine, dense, pure. As the kids are saying … this wine is fire (cringe). And speaking of kids, it’s a genuine gateway into the world of Cabernet for younger drinkers. The plush fruit, the quiet complexities, the energy all create a softness around a grape usually seen as a bit of a hard-intellect type. In the mouth, the tannins are ripe and plentiful. More black fruits, cassis, and mocha – the latter courtesy of French oak. Drink now–2032 Windance Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 G 95 The colour is dense, the fruit concentrated, and the romance high. Crushed gravel, black – really black – berries, and 70% dark chocolate. The palate, as you can imagine, is concentrated and oh so Cabernet: raw cacao powder, coffee grounds, and more black fruits. Scrumptious feels like an appropriate word. It’s a great wine, and it speaks of intuitive viticulture, smart winemaking, and grape quality. Drink now–2035
