Brings some Italian-style earthy savouriness to the Sangiovese grape, which laps it up. The variety is well-suited to this handling, showing dried red fruits, dark cherries, anise, fennel and wild herbs across a palate that is both bright and starting to settle down as a three-year-old wine. Tannins are supple and even. Calls out for food that is definitely in the Italian-style. Drink now–2028 Pauletts Riesling 2025 G 91 A youthful Riesling just starting out on its journey. Classic lime and lemon citrus, spring blossom with an intense line of lime pith and lemon juice flavours that tingle with a driving acidity that carries straight through to a mouth-watering finish. Dry, crisp and delicious with potential to age. Drink now–2030 Pikes Luccio Fiano 2025 G 91 The Southern Italian hardy late-ripener is enjoying its new home in the Clare Valley. Brings trademark texture with a ringing lemon-citrus concentration and lemon peel, almond, quince and spice. Dry, chalky finish with a pronounced tingly acidity. Drink now–2028 Skillogalee Small Batch Syrah 2023 G 91 Taking its inspiration from the classic Rhône blend of Syrah/Viognier, this Small Batch creative blend marries syrah (91%) with the aromatic white grape muscat (9%). A co-fermentation, it brings an added aromatic liveliness to the fragrance in orange blossom and rose oil notes with black cherry, plum and anise spice. It’s a striking and effective winemaking device with flavours that mix the aromatic with the earthy and red-fruited. Dressed in supple tannins, it’s ready for its moment in the glass. Drink now–2030 Taylors Jaraman Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 G 91 One of the more challenging and wetter, cooler leads into vintage of recent times in the Clare Valley sees a joining of Cabernet forces from Clare and Coonawarra for a ’23 Cabernet. Delves deep into dark-fruited territory with cassis, mint, nettle, leaves and cedary oak aromas. The palate is packed to brimming in lip-smacking tannins, blackberry and plum fruits, aniseed and spice with a green, herbal-edged finish. Drink now–2032
