Artwine The Grace Graciano 2022

G 92

Artwine is one of the few Aussie producers to believe in the Spanish grape graciano as a solo performer. It is rewarded with a wine singularly dark in colour, spicy and peppery in nature, with a robust core of black and red fruits. Blackberry, plum, blueberry, earth, briar, crushed herbs, black pepper and spice with an added savoury touch of cured meats. Fine yet sturdy tannins give way to a wild herbal edge to close. Mid-gold hues. Honeysuckle, ripe pear, stewed apple, white peach and spice on the aroma. Establishes itself with a warm, textural introduction and flavours that run long and deep, veering into the savoury before finishing with a distinctive pear-drop pastille note. The full citrus spectrum is on show with lemon sherbet, grapefruit pith and lime juice and notes of citrus blossom, green apple, lemongrass and hints of ginger. Palate is super dry, crisp as a starched shirt and tangy. Great drive and finish.

From its Santorini island home comes a grape variety that today calls the Clare Valley home. Now 14 years old, the vines produce a scintillatingly bright and perky white wine, bristling in fine lemon and citrus fruit aromas with hints of cardamon and spiced honey. Dramatic acid line and length – every inch as linear and pure as Clare Riesling – with a saline slatey-ness that crackles and crunches along the palate. Drink now–2030

Kilikanoon Killerman’s Run Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro 2023

Over delivers and how! Year in, year out, this GSM brings it home, even in cool and challenging vintages like 2023. There’s energy, there’s life, there’s a wealth of good, honest flavour to enjoy at a great price. Plenty to like here from the vibrant fragrance, alight in red-dark fruits, lifted florals and spice, through to a palate that brings three synergistic (classic French Côtes du Rhône) grape varieties together in total harmony. Each brings a little something, including a lovely mix of herbs and spices that sing alongside ripe fruit and an even keel of tannin that allows the wine to flow. Drink now–2029
