Taylors Masterstroke Cabernet, Shiraz 2022
G 93
A classic style Aussie red blend with Cabernet in the driver’s seat and revealing a leafy dry Aussie bush and briar, earthy complexity at its heart. Cedar oak aromas join black and blueberry fruits and gentle spice. Oak sits with a definite presence on the palate which is fleshy and nicely spiced with herbs, bay leaf and noteworthy leafy bush flavours with a lingering hint of eucalyptus. Cabernet tannins outline a firm structure, ensuring further ageing can be recommended and will be rewarded. Drink now–2040
Tim Adams Fiano 2023
G 93
Fiano is a rising star on the Australian wine scene, and why not, when you get to taste a wine like this that is immediately fresh and alive in the scents and flavours of summer with a light savoury twist. Immediately friendly and inviting with its citrus tang, pear skin, melon and nectarine flavours that come with an appealing bitter almond edge. It’s part of the great pulling power of the variety and the wine. Dry chalky finish. So good. Drink now–2030 Tim Adams Mr Mick Shiraz 2021 G 93 One of the best-value-for-money Shirazes you can find, and in a top year like 2021, it truly shines. Looking stylish in ripe dark plum and blackberry fruits, black liquorice, bright spice chocolate and earth. Comes rolled up in ripe tannins, bringing those luscious, sweet fruits, earth and spice to bear before going long and lingering. Another consistently excellent release. Drink now–2030 Tim Adams Schaefer Shiraz 2020 G 93 Vines were planted in 1998 by the Schaefer family, and Tim and Pam Adams bought the vineyard in 2015, knowing the fruit to be special. It is now released under the individual vineyard black label. It offers a slow reveal, a slightly restrained approach that could benefit from further ageing. The concentration, balance and length are striking but it’s a gradual process to open. Tightly formed black fruits, spice, mint and smoky, toasty oak come layered with savoury charcuterie, leather notes. Palate is dense and carried by sturdy tannins. Enjoyable now but further patience will be rewarded. Drink now–2034 Tim Adams Ladera Tempranillo 2021 G 93 Tempranillo is starting to make waves in the Clare Valley. Ladera is sourced from a Wendouree Road vineyard planted in 2004, and is looking mighty smart in a top year like 2021. Lifted aromas of black cherry, cassis and blue fruits mix with earth, briar and spice. It’s a heady fragrance, well replicated on a palate that is at once generous in fruit with a ribbon of lasting red liquorice and sleek in fine tannins. Finishes with some cherry crunch. The overall impression is one of elegance. More, please! Drink now–2031
