Lone Palm Hillside Shiraz 2023
G 93
The fruit used here comes from the heart of the Barossa Valley, a west-facing hillside vineyard in the Marananga sub-region. Maturation was for a year and a half in a mixture of American and French oak. The colour is a vibrant purple, promising much. This is full throttle black-fruited, but with a well-crafted overlay of oak. There are aromas of dried herbs, plums, mocha, mulberries, chocolate, coffee beans and graphite. A smooth and seductive palate with concentration and power. Tight as a drum at the moment, but one senses it is keen to burst out and show all its glories. Very good length with silky tannins and a lingering finish. 10–12 years. Drink now– 2037 Lou Miranda Estate Fierce III Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 G 93 Medium-deep crimson. Cassis, dried plum, Medjoul dates, chinotto aromas and flavours, inky/ supple/ripe textures, attractive mid-palate volume and well- integrated mineral acidity. Some underlying minty notes. Drink now–2030 Mecklen Shiraz 2024 G 93 The fruit for this fine Shiraz comes from the Gomersal sub-region of the Barossa. Maturation is in a mix of new and older barrels. A magenta/purple hue, we have notes of blackcurrants, plums, raisins, dried fruits, chocolate and charcuterie on the nose. There is good concentration throughout. The wine is of medium length, but is neatly balanced and has good intensity for the full length. There is a lingering finish exhibiting fine, powdery tannins. Enjoy this over the next 8–10 years. Drink now–2035 Mesh Riesling 2025 G 93 There’s a subtle floral sweetness to begin, which is echoed in the fruit here, richly expressed to bring a real joy in the tasting moment, which is seasoned by a spiced lift in the finish. Simply delicious. Drink now–2035 Millon Wines Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 G 93 Medium-deep crimson.
