Barossa Wine Guide 2026

Purple Hands Planta Circa Ancestor Vines Grenache 2024

G 94

Medium-deep crimson. Lovely flinty plum, hint strawberry aromas with graphite notes. Elegantly styled and refined in structure with pure plum strawberry fruits, fine loose-knit chalky textures and persistent fine acidity. Builds with air. Drink now–2032 Saltram Salter Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 G 94 This vintage saw the wettest spring in more than 30 years and the wettest November for over a century, suggesting that conditions might be tough. However, the abilities of today’s winemakers have seen many wines rise above this hardship, and here is yet one more example. Maturation was in older French oak vats with a contribution from some new French oak barrels. 2012 was the first vintage for this wine and this release is just the second. As they say in the region, look for Barossa Valley Cabernet from a cooler vintage. The colour is a vibrant opaque/maroon, while the nose is a little muted at the moment, though everything suggests a wine of enormous promise. We have notes of mulberries, liquorice, mushrooms, mocha, bay leaves and chocolate. A supple texture, good balance and impressive length through the silky tannins, there is improvement ahead in this wine, and it should be a serious contributor for the next ten to fifteen years. Drink 2028–2038 Schild Estate Three Springs Shiraz 2023 G 94 Deep crimson. Lifted blackberry, praline, liquorice with vanilla marzipan notes.
