A vibrant purple hue, the nose gives us plums, mulberries, cold tea, florals, warm earth and chocolate. The oak is a fraction clunky at the moment but it is in the process of integration. The palate has a sleek and supple texture with fine tannins and very good length. Has an exciting future ahead and should come together over the next decade. The name is not some obscure reference to faceless bureaucrats in endless talkfests, but rather, G Seven refers to the seventh generation of the Scholz family, making wine in the Barossa for many years. The wine has a purple hue with a dark crimson rim. There is good oak in evidence here, still in the process of integrating. The nose gives us notes of dry herbs, chocolate, beefstock, cloves, bay leaves and even a touch of gum leaves. There is juicy acidity, still slightly mouthpuckering, with fine tannins on a finish of decent length. Has a good future ahead (not something one might always say about the talkfest version of the G7). Drink now–2037 Sorby Adams Ptolemy Pinot Noir 2024 G 92 OK, I’ll be honest. Simon Adams has made a Pinot Noir? The bloke is salt of the earth Barossa and probably the last person one might think of when one talks Burgundian varieties. If one’s expectations were if not low then perhaps curious, they have been thoroughly exceeded. From a single vineyard in the Eden Valley, at an elevation of 450 metres above sea level, the wine spent 12 months in French oak, 10% of which were new. A pale garnet hue, the nose reveals notes of red fruits, truffles, spices, leaf litter, dry herbs and red cherries. There is good focus and medium length, finishing with sleek tannins. Still fresh and energetic, this will provide pleasure over the next 6–8 years. Drink now–2033
