G 92
From a single vineyard in the Craneford sub-region of the Eden Valley, which sits 450 metres above sea level, fermentation and oak treatment is the same for the entire Cold Sweat series. 50% new French oak puncheons and 16 months’ maturation. Opaque maroon/purple in colour, the oak integration is certainly apparent, but proceeding well. The wine has good ripeness with notes of warm earth, dried herbs, chocolate, beef stock and black olives. Attractive flavours throughout, there is a supple texture leading to fine, powdery tannins. It could do with a fraction more length if it wants to go to the next level, but that could come in time. Certainly, it will provide pleasure for the next 8–10 years. Drink now–2035 First Drop Dos Por Ciento Shiraz, Moscatel 2021 G 92 Including a dollop of white material with red grapes is far more common than you might realise. We see it with Shiraz and Viognier, but for many years in the Barossa a range of white varieties have been used. Here we have Moscatel making the dollop. Needless to say, that is the 2% mentioned on the label. Maturation is in a mix of French oak. 50% was new French oak hogsheads with the remainder three- to four-year-old French oak puncheons. The wine sees 20 months in these vessels. The vineyards providing the fruit include sources from Ebenezer, various sites in the Eden Valley, as well as Seppeltsfield and Greenock. A vibrant ruby/maroon in hue, there are some savoury notes immediately apparent here. We have spices, black olives, mushrooms, coffee grinds and cloves, all sitting comfortably with the oak integration. Decent length, the wine finishes with firm if slightly grainy tannins. This is quite a muscular style, for drinking over the next 8–10 years. Drink now–2035 Forage Supply Co Baby Face Field Blend 2024 G 92 Medium crimson. Simple raspberry pastille strawberry fruits with flinty notes. Medium-bodied and flavourful with attractive raspberry. Turkish Delight flavours and loose-knit lacy textures. Attractive mid-palate viscosity and fresh long mineral acidity. Early drinking fruit-driven style. Drink now
