Mataro
Seppeltsfield Wines Mataro 2025
G 94
Deep purple-crimson. Explores the deeper side to mataro, where earth- leather and taut tannins overlay summer fruits, plum and mountain herbs. Compact and well composed, the palate delivers a deep spice with peppery notes among a complex, youthful array of herbs, dark earth, leaf, vanillin oak, background rose florals and a ripe array of cherry, black fruits, plum. Potential for ageing is strong. Now–2033 Henschke The Bootmaker Mataro 2024 G 93 Purple-crimson. Carries a deep sense of ripe fruit and dark plums on the scent, cocoa, cinnamon, clove and smoky-sweet oak. An earthy, gravelly complexity sits in the background, but ultimately it is the vibrancy of pepper and spice, liquorice and chocolate, hints of rose petal musk and ripe fruit that holds sway on a bed of ripe tannins. Naturally friendly in
style. Now–2032 John Duval Wines Annexus Mataro 2024

Mid-purple. A lighter style of Mataro, brisk in acidity and tannin drive. Aromas of red cherry, berry, black pepper, black liquorice, vanillin spice, leaf, twig. The palate offers a singular prettiness, a feast of cherry berry enlivened in a rousing spiciness and delivered on a fresh, sinewy tannin texture. Finishes on a fitting leafy clean note. Now–2032 Torbreck The Pict Mataro 2023 G 93 Medium-deep crimson. Blood and bone/ferruginous blackberry, meaty aromas with minty notes.
