Vella Wines Trouble Maker Pinot Blanc Blend Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer 2021

G 91

A faint gold tinge developing with its few years on the clock, and the nose is just exhibiting some age, though the palate is in its prime with delicious white stone fruits and citrus, lively with acidity, fresh with its own kind of flavour-filled tang and texture. Drink now–2027 Vella Wines Gambler Gamay 2022 G 91 CBD oil, dried figs and bark. Earthy and honest, with tart fruits threading through the savoury core. A light seasoning of white pepper closes the finish – playful, chewy and quietly persistent. Drink 2027–2030 Warburton Pinot Gris 2025 G 91 A lovely little wine. Apricot kernel, dried pears and oat milk. Plenty of subtle nuances and a calming essence. Drink as an aperitif – but equally at home with food. Camomile, almond skin and baked apples to finish. The weight is held up by acid, and the oiliness complemented by a late grip. Slightly indulgent. Drink now–2029 Watkins Sauvignon Blanc 2025 G 91 A more sensitive expression with a mix of varietal aromas from tropical fruit salad and lime, with an attractive apple cream bun feel plus a light pithy texture in the palate to carry a softer feel throughout. Less aggression is a plus here. Drink now–2027 Wirra Wirra Hiding Champion Sauvignon Blanc 2025 G 91 Riper notes on show here from the outset, the tropical fruits have a creaminess that slides nicely into the palate, some spice as well in the acidity on the palate. Zesty and tangy as it should be. Drink now–2027 Anvers Razorback Road Rosé Syrah 2025 G 90 Electric pink in the glass, with clear notes of strawberry tops to begin, dry in the palate, Fuji apple-like flavours, tight and tense in the palate with a touch of peppery spice for seasoning. One for the table. Drink now–2030 Aptitude Gamay 2024 G 90 Reductive, flinty, struck-match characters to begin, with a sense of the fruit sitting in behind, and while there’s a bit of retention in the palate of these characters, the fruit and peppery spice lift their heads. Potential here for this to grow into itself in a decanter or jug. One to watch. Drink now–2029
