Adelaide Hills Wine Guide 2026

Mr Riggs Ein Riese Riesling 2025

G 91

A gateway to the white wine world. Lush, sweet, fresh, and complete. White peach syrup, honeysuckle nectar, and perfume – the expensive kind, not the chemist stuff. The acid balances the sweetness, leaving you with the essence of sugar, but it dries up just in time. Medium-sweet, if you’re after specifics. A perfect match for spice – truly Asian cuisine’s best friend. The fruit is pure, the personality a little naughty. A best-friend combo built to last. Yum. Drink now–2030 Ngeringa Mt Barker Summit Syrah 2023 G 91 Purity and sentimentality in a Syrah. Sweet strawberry purée, violets and bay leaf. It feels wise for its age. Dried Kalamata olives and charred blood plums. The tannins are firm and persistent, giving gentle shape to all that brightness. A joyful wine, full of spark and life. Drink now–2030 Paracombe A Trio of Pinot Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris NV G 91 Pretty, pink and perfumed. Musk sticks, potpourri and sweet raspberries. It’s an unusual mix of grape varieties for a sparkling – and I’m enjoying the ride. The bead is firm yet fine, with more abundant fruit on the palate. White rockmelon, orange blossom and red fruits follow. An enjoyable wine, and one not to overthink – just share it among your fave homies. Drink now–2028 Pawn Star Maturana Tinta 2021 G 91 Celebrate the brave. Muscular, chewy and a little bit rogue. For a nearly extinct variety (Maturana Tinta), this wine stands tall. Pressed spearmint, lemon thyme and sun-dried clay. High-brow and opinionated – a touch judgemental, but only towards those who deserve it. The palate swells with black fruits, cured meat and charry oak; it’s a big boy. Not a wine for everyone – but for the curious, the old-school warriors, and anyone who’s ever slow-roasted a lamb shoulder on a Sunday. Drink now–2031

Sidewood Estate Isabella Rosé Pinot Noir, Chardonnay 2018

G 91

A fabulous orange-hued, pink-salmon colour – it looks royal and rich. Sweet peaches, apple skins and almond essence. Made in the traditional method with a blend of 60% pinot noir and 40% chardonnay. It’s quiet but confident, the mouthfeel creamy – like whipped Chantilly. There’s a sleazy, leesy vein beneath it all, and a finish that nods to maraschino cherries. Drink now–2028
