Warburton Pinot Noir 2024
G 92
Aromatic and elegant. Stems, lavender, apple seed and poached strawberries – ready for pie. It’s well put together, with a detailed, deliberate nature. Bouncy and vibrant; it doesn’t seem to care what you think. More pressed flowers and chalk-dust texture through the finish, with harmonious, almost halloumi-like tannins. It sits more on the floral spectrum than its regional counterparts – and I like its authenticity, its singularity. Drink now–2032 Wicks Estate Pinot Noir 2024 G 92 Fragrant with woody spice and stemmy feels, cherry fruits as well, infusing the palate with classic varietal intentions, easy-going body structure and tannin dusting. Worth a decant and swirl to bring all of its aromatics up out of the glass. Drink now–2032
Wicks Estate Shiraz 2023
G 92
A great value wine, made well. Honest drinking for current times – and for millennials with modest bank accounts. Beetroot chips, chirpy black fruits and a lift of perfume: blackberry jubes, blood plum and wild mulberry. The palate is charry and echoing, with all the best parts of liquorice bullets. Yummy wine. Drink now–2029 Wirra Wirra Yandra Vineyard Chardonnay 2024 G 92 Enticing, richly manicured Chardonnay from the Lenswood region, ripe fruit aromas and a fair dose of oak and struck match notes to begin that do cloud the flavours in the palate a fair bit. That said, it’s crafted to this certain style with a bold hand. Drink now–2030 Aptitude Contact Theory Riesling, Cortese 2024 G 92 A new and adventurous blend and style, with a pioneering launch into the Cortese variety out of the Ashton district. A subtle skin contact note to the nose, then a fascinating set of flavours that are more towards the orange-skinned citrus zone than yellow or green, a decent smatter of pepper, and spicy pith and tannins to finish. Bold. Drink now–2030 Aptitude Connubio Dolcetto, Sangiovese 2024 G 92 A blend that either breaks or changes the rules, depending on where you sit. Built with generous reduction, and all the nasals of a box of struck matches. Wild flavours, bramble, savouries through the palate, a unique almost eucalypt spice seam as well. Fascinating and encouraging. Drink now–2032
