Hither & Yon Hillenvale Syrah Shiraz 2022

G 93

From a unique vineyard on the cusp of the Hills and McLaren Vale regions, east of Kangarilla. Rich, spiced plums with a sense of warm sunshine in the orchard at harvest. The faintest of mint chocolate follows, before the wine swells in the palate, buoyant flavours, bright sparks of acidity and freshness to drive it forward. Big beauty. Drink now–2034 Honey Moon Vineyard Extra Pinot Noir 2021 G 93 As I’m tasting it now, about four years on, it’s clearly come out of the terrible twos (and threes) and into its own. Maraschino cherries, sweet liquorice and a touch of amaro lead the charge, with the first signs of age just edging into the savoury spectrum – though the colour still shines bright. On the palate, more aniseed and stewed blood plums roll through. It’s detailed, self-assured, and just the perfect

amount of snob. Drink now–2036 K1 by Geoff Hardy Middle Hills Shiraz 2022

G 93

From the K1 Kuitpo vineyard, there’s a completeness to this Shiraz from nose to tail, good fruit and oak harmony at the start, even balance through the palate with juicy and sparky plum flavours, ripe and happy, coated with enough tannin structure to hold the finish in the spotlight for a good moment. Koerner The Hills Chardonnay 2024

G 93

It definitely leans into its lo-fi credentials – a slight haze, a touch of grubbiness, and the essence of the perfect anchovy toast–wine match. Crushed concrete, lemon pith and pomelo. It’s all about savoury notes and, dare I say, minerality. It’s a fun little wine, full of broken misconceptions and a feeling of freedom. Drink now–2030 La Linea Vertigo Riesling 25GR Riesling 2025 G 93 The 25GR in the title refers to 25 grams of residual sweetness in the wine, making it an off-dry style weighing in at 9.5 abv. The aromas are deeper than often seen, rather than floral lime, more leaf and zest, the palate neatly sitting between dry and barely sweet, with a lovely Bickford’s lime cordial-like flavour and measured tang, leaving the mouth with a chalk dust powdering, refreshed and ready to sip again and again. Drink now–2030 La Prova Pinot Grigio 2025 G 93 Taut and crisp – the way all good Italian house whites should behave. Green tea and fresh nashi pear. True to form; it’s not trying to be anything it’s not. The freshness runs on a fine, linear spine of acid, giving the feeling of diving into a cool river that flows off the snowy mountains. The real surprise? It fits perfectly into the hand of a Pinot Grigio drinker, yet hits the spot for those who like their whites a little more saline and serious. Drink now–2030
